Meta to Use AI Interactions for Personalized Content and Ads Across Its Apps
Meta Platforms announced on Wednesday that starting December 16, it will use users’ interactions with its generative AI tools to personalize content and advertising across its apps, including Facebook and Instagram.
Users will begin receiving notifications about the change on October 7, and Meta confirmed there will be no option to opt out. However, the update applies only to those who actively use Meta AI.
According to the company, interactions with AI features—whether via text or voice—will be combined with existing data such as likes and follows to shape recommendations for content and ads, including Reels.
“People's interactions are going to be another piece of the input that will inform personalization of feeds and ads,” said Christy Harris, privacy policy manager at Meta.
Meta also emphasized that conversations about sensitive topics will not be used to target ads.
